Crop & Livestock Production in Putnam County Putnam County has 304,000 acres are involved in farming. The importance of individual crops to total crop receipts are corn (25th), soybeans (3rd), wheat (5th), and (1st) in tomato production respectively with the number in parenthesis representing state ranking of the 88 counties. Greenhouse, processing vegetable crops and nurseries make up a thriving speciality crop industry. The importance of individual livestock enterprises are hogs (3rd), dairy (16th) and beef (39th) respectively. Putnam County has 1,310 farms with the average size farm of 232 acres. Total cash receipts from marketing farm commodities is $153,148,000.00.
