Please find below important information as we get closer to summer 4-H programs!

4-H Club Pallet Contest
Don’t forget to pick up your free pallet from the Extension office and make a club entry for the Pallet Contest.

4-H Endowment Auction Items Needed
Items needed – remember to coordinate an item or two (or three) for donation to the 4-H Endowment silent auction. Please drop off you Silent Auction items as soon as possible so our office staff can get them labeled and numbered for the auction. Please show your support for the Putnam County 4-H Youth Program, visit the silent auction, have fun bidding and possibly win some great items.

Jr. Fair Livestock entries – Due June 4
Remember that Jr. Fair Livestock entries are due June 4, 2021. Entry Forms can be found HERE

All 4-Her’s wanting to exhibit livestock at the fair MUST complete a Jr. Fair entry form. Forms should be completed using Jr. Fair Classes listed on pages in the back half of the Putnam County Fair Book. Please be sure to use the 2021 Fair Book when completing forms in order to get the correct class numbers.

*NOTICE: All late fair entries will be considered ineligible for awards and will exhibit for a grade only!! A $10 per week late fee will be assessed for any entries turned in after the deadline.

Photo Contest
Don’t forget to start taking pictures for the photo contest! The 3 categories are:

  • 4-H in Action
  • 4-H Selfies
  • 4-H Projects

4-Hers can submit in all three categories as long as they are a different picture. Forms can be found HERE. Pictures and forms are due back to the office by June 18th!

Putnam County 4-H Camp is a GO!
The Putnam County 4-H Camp is scheduled for July 15-17 at 4-H Camp Palmer. Registration materials have been sent and are online. Registration deadline is July 6th. Click here to down the Camp Registration

4-H Judging Notes

Special Interest Project Judging
Kalida High School, June 15th, 2021, 8:30AM – 3PM

All Special Interest/Home Ec Projects will be judged individually by experienced judges. Times are scheduled by clubs within each project area so be sure to check for all your times. When arriving at Kalida High School, please report to the Registration Table. There you will be given a Judging Sheet, location of the room, and complete instructions. 4-H Judging events will follow the distancing protocols. Details about schedule has been released.

If you have a conflict with the Kalida Special Interest Judging (because of vacation, camp, school, or church obligations) please call the Extension Office at 419-523-6294 and receive a link to submit your FLIPGRID Video as a make-up judging option. Remember if you complete your project through FLIPGRID you are ineligible for a county placing. All projects to be completed prior to fair start date.                                                        

Misc Project Judging
Merchants Building at Fair Grounds, June 16, 8:30AM - 3PM

All Misc Projects will be judged individually by experienced judges. Times are scheduled by clubs within each project area so be sure to check for all your times. When arriving at the Merchants Building, please report to the Registration Table. There you will be given a Judging Sheet, location of the room, and complete instructions. 4-H Judging events will follow the distancing protocols. Details about schedule has been released.

If you have a conflict with the Misc Judging (because of vacation, camp, school, or church obligations) please call the Extension Office at 419-523-6294 and receive a link to submit your FLIPGRID Video as a make-up judging option. Livestock/Dog Skillathon Judging
Will be held on Thursday, June 10th from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM at the OTTAWA K of C HALL located on 10759 Co. Rd H Ottawa.

PLEASE READ: 4-H Skillathon participants will be required to register for a time online. Visit HERE for link. This will help us maintain attendees in the building as this judging event is large. Youth only will be permitted in building during the time of judging. Parents are asked to stay in parking lot please. Skillathon Link closes on Tuesday June 8th at 12 PM

All 4-H members enrolled in a livestock project/dogs will need to participate in a livestock skillathon judging. Members are responsible to bring their completed, up-to-date project and record book with them to judging. All members need to participate in the skillathon judging process in order to exhibit at the county fair.

If you have a conflict with the Skillathon Judging (because of vacation, camp, school, or church obligations) please call the Extension Office at 419-523-6294 and sign up for a time slot for Make Up- Skillathon. Make-Up Skillathon Judging will be Thursday June 17th from 8:30-4:00 at the Extension Office.

*Advisors cannot grade livestock projects*.

Junior Fair Correction: Animal Release Time
Junior fair livestock load out is Saturday, June 26 at midnight – All animals to be off grounds by Sunday, June 27 1PM. Buyers of feeder calves will load out Sunday June 27 between 9-10AM

New Gates in Lamb and Goat Barn – PLEASE READ
The new gates have arrived in the barn and are currently being set up – they are awesome! A huge thanks to all of you who have donated and made it possible. Thanks also to the Goat and Sheep Improvement Committee for leading the effort. With new gates comes new ways of doing things. The committee asks everyone to be respectful and help keep the gates in great condition for the years to come. Please read the following guidelines.

1. Feeders can only be attached to pens using zip ties. Absolutely no metal hooks, wires, etc. on new pens.

2. No drilling, nailing, or screwing anything onto wood on the backs of pens.

3. Tack space is going to be very limited this year so please plan accordingly.

4. Fans cannot be attached or hung on the new pens. They must be hung like they were in previous years.

Drug Use Notification Forms (DUNF)
The DUNF forms will be distributed at the 4-H Skillathon Judging located at the Ottawa K of C Hall and during make up skillathon judging. They will be collected prior to fair weigh in on Sunday, June 20. Market Animals will not weigh without a competed DUNF.

Open Class Bred and Fed Forms
All open class bred and fed forms will be collected by senior fair board officials at weigh-in June 20, 2021. We have posted these forms for your convenience HERE

Ractopamine affidavits for swine projects
Affidavits will be distributed at the 4-H Skillathon Judging located at the Ottawa K of C Hall and during make up skillathon judging. They will be collected prior to fair weigh in on Sunday, June 20. Market swine will not weigh without a competed affidavit.

Attention Swine and Feeder Calf Exhibitors – Barn Clean Up
Swine and Dairy Barn clean up is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2021. Start time is 8:00AM. Please bring rakes, wheelbarrows, shovels, and leaf blowers. Pizza will be provided for those that help. Many hands make light work!
