Hello 4-H Advisors and Families:

Happy New Year! Please find below some important information as we kick off the 2021 4-H Program year. Please read carefully as there are lots of details below.

Putnam County Extension Office Opening - we will open to the public during normal business hours starting January 19th, 2021.

4-H Club Meetings - OSU has approved that 4-H Clubs can meet face to face after January 15, 2021. Clubs can gather for events and meetings if distancing guidelines are followed. Masks required, sign-ins required, and minimum 6’ distancing.

Turkey Orders and Pick Up – There is still time to submit your turkey orders for the 2021 Putnam County Fair! All turkey orders must be received by 11:59 pm on January 15 to meet the deadline with Cooper Farms Hatchery. Youth may order more than five poults but must pay for each poult after five. Please remember that this offer is only good for youth in 4-H and FFA who will be completing the market turkey project in 2021. The date for picking up the turkeys will February 19, from noon to 4:30 pm at the Extension Office. You can submit your order online by going to www.go.osu.edu/2021Turkeys. 4-H Advisor Kick Off – to limit face to face large gatherings, we will conduct our Advisor Kick-Offs a bit differently. We are asking each club to send ONE advisor to the Kick-Off training. We will review 4-H materials at this time, review program changes and coach everyone through the online enrollment process. A ZOOM link will be shared with the remaining Advisors to join via ZOOM. The Advisor Kick Off is scheduled for February 2, 2021 starting at 6PM at the Putnam County ESC Assembly Room.

4-H Club Materials – Advisors can pick up club start up materials from the office after January 21. This includes handbooks, enrollment instructions, and a few family guides for new families. Other materials generally distributed at kick off training will also be included.

4-H Promotional Flyers – we are developing a 4-H Enrollment and Promotional Flyer this week. Will send it to all advisors via email. You can use this (and add your own local club meeting details) to distribute in school, church bulletins or wherever you feel is appropriate. Adjust county text as needed on subsequent pages.

4-H Online Enrollment - Ohio 4H is moving to online enrollment in 2021. This has been planned for implementation for two years and is not a result of the recent pandemic. We piloted the process with a few clubs last year and it went well. We will be releasing the link to enroll and provide instructions on our web site. We also have paper copies of the instructions in your club materials that can be handed out. Enrollment deadline is March 1.

Attention Junior Fair Steer Exhibitors - Please read changes As released in November, there will be no Steer Weigh-In for 2021. Instead, 2021 market beef/dairy steer exhibitors are required to pick up EID Tags from the Extension Office. You can pick up tags until January 22, 2021 in our office, complete an ID Form, take photos of tagged animal, and send photos along with the form back to Extension Office. You can schedule a tag pick up this week by calling 567-376-4017 or pick up tags from January 19 – 22, 2021 in our office. All forms and tagging must be done by end of day January 22, 2021. If your steer already has an EIN Tag, simply complete the ID Form and submit pictures of your steer by the Jan 22nd deadline. The form includes DETAILED instructions about what photos are needed and how to submit them to the office. ID Forms completed after January 22 will be assessed a $10 late fee and could be ineligible for fair competition.

Update from ODA concerning Pollorum Testing for the 2021 Fair Season - Pullorum testing antigen is now available. This means that for the 2021 fair season, poultry testing will resume. Most birds purchased will have the NPIP # on receipt indicating the birds are from a pollorum free facility. Retain this receipt as you will need it at fair time with your DUNF form. If you do not have this, independent testing will be required. The Rabbit / Poultry Committee will be exploring testing days available to you in the spring.

4-H Project Books – Will be available at our Extension office and we plan to distribute as we have in the past (through advisors once your enrollment is complete). They are provided to you at no additional cost beyond your club dues. Some 4-H Books are available FREE ONLINE or you can order your own books (at your cost) through 4-H Project Central.

4-H Family Guide - This is your place to connect to our entire collection of Ohio 4-H project books for the year. New this year - The Family Guide will be mailed directly to your home if you were a 4-H family last year. We will have some hardcopies available at advisor trainings in 2021 for your new 4-H families. You can also access the Family Guide buy clicking HERE.
